Gas Safe RegisterTM replaces CORGI

On Wednesday 1 April 2009, the CORGI gas registration scheme in Great Britain was replaced by a new registration scheme called Gas Safe Register™.

Asking to see a CORGI ID card has long been recognised as the way of verifying that a gas engineer is technically competent and qualified to work safely on gas installations. However, this has now changed. Since 1 April, any gas operative planning to undertake work in Scotland, England or Wales is now required, by law, to be on the Gas Safe Register™.

The Health and Safety Executive, who is responsible for regulating gas safety in Great Britain, will oversee Gas Safe Register™.

Improving consumer safety

One of the main aims of the new scheme is to improve consumer gas safety and awareness. To help achieve these aims, the new register will provide enhanced levels of service and clearly written rules of registration.

There will also be new services and benefits designed to improve the registration scheme and promote gas safety.

Our commitment to providing a high-quality service remains unaffected – the only visible change for our customers will be that, since 1 April, all our gas engineers now carry a Gas Safe Register™ ID card instead of a CORGI one.
